Wound Care
The Wound Healing Center at Gadsden Regional Medical Center provides specialized treatment for chronic, infected or non-healing wounds that have not significantly improved after conventional treatments. Wounds that are hard to heal and are associated with inadequate circulation, poorly functioning veins, pressure wounds from immobility, infections and diabetic ulcers lead to lower quality of life and may lead to amputations. When wounds persist, a specialized approach to nutrition and lifestyle modifications is encouraged.
The wound care specialists are designed to complement your physicians’ services*, and the staff is committed to the treatment of chronic or non-healing wounds. The Center is made up of a team of professionals, including:
- Physicians with advanced training in wound management and hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) therapy, debridement and medical therapy to optimize healing
- Nursing staff trained in chronic wound care with certifications in hyperbaric oxygen treatment, wound VAC placement, compression wraps, skin substitutes, etc.
The healing treatments available include debridement, dressing or gauze selections, compression wraps, total contact casting and hyperbaric oxygen therapy. The Wound Healing Center can help patients with non-healing and chronic wounds return to the life they love. The wound care team uses an interdisciplinary model of care, including infectious-disease management, vascular evaluation, laboratory evaluation, nutritional management, diabetes education and other areas to address total patient health, including referrals to appropriate specialists for continuation of positive outcomes.
