Three Nurses Recognized for Outstanding Patient Care
7/11/2019
GADSDEN, AL, JULY 11, 2019—The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses was recently awarded to three nurses at Gadsden Regional Medical Center. Sheree Dean, Ashley Hairrell, and Drew Johnson were recognized by the DAISY Award Committee in the second quarter.
Sheree Dean, an RN on the 7th Floor, received the award in April and was nominated by the family member of a patient. The nomination read, “She always went above and beyond her normal job duties in her care of [the patient]. And her attitude was always great.”
Ashley Hairrell, an RN in Orthopedics, was honored in May. Hairrell was nominated by a patient she cared for and his family. Their nomination said, “She was one of the most caring, compassionate, and comforting nurses I have ever had of all the surgeries that I have had in the past.”
The DAISY Award committee celebrated Drew Johnson, an RN in the Critical Care Unit, for receiving nominations from the families of two patients in June. One nominator commended Drew for his love of his work. “It really shows in his treatment and care of my mother,” one nominator said. His second nomination read, “Drew made my husband’s determination and will go through the roof. In three months [of hospitalization], I have never seen him so motivated.”
Gadsden Regional Medical Center is proud to have a staff of nurses who show exemplary compassion in the care of their patients every day. To nominate a Gadsden Regional nurse for the DAISY award, visit the home page and click the picture of the daisy.
Nurses may be nominated by patients, families, and colleagues, and are chosen by a committee of nurses at Gadsden Regional Medical Center to receive The DAISY Award. Awards are given throughout the year at presentations given in front of the nurse’s colleagues, physicians, patients, and visitors. Each Honoree receives a certificate commending her or him for being an "Extraordinary Nurse." The certificate reads: "In deep appreciation of all you do, who you are, and the incredibly meaningful difference you make in the lives of so many people." The Honoree will also be given a beautiful and meaningful sculpture called A Healer’s Touch, hand-carved by artists of the Shona Tribe in Africa.
The not-for-profit DAISY Foundation is based in Glen Ellen, CA, and was established by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes. Patrick died at the age of 33 in late 1999 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), a little known but not uncommon auto-immune disease. The care Patrick and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families.
Gadsden Regional Medical Center has served the Gadsden and surrounding areas with quality health care for more than 100 years. With a medical staff of more than 220 and more than 1,300 employees, GRMC is proud to be able to continue providing extraordinary health care to our patients.
