Gadsden Regional Medical Center Awarded Total Hip and Knee Replacement Recertification from The Joint Commission
8/3/2021
GADSDEN, ALABAMA, AUGUST 3, 2021— Gadsden Regional Medical Center has once again earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for Total Hip and Knee Replacement Certification by demonstrating continuous compliance with its performance standards. The Gold Seal is a symbol of quality that reflects a health care organization’s commitment to providing safe and quality patient care. Gadsden Regional was recertified by The Joint Commission for Total Hips and Total knees in August.
The recertification, in collaboration with the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, focuses on the pre-surgical orthopedic consultation to the intraoperative, hospitalization or ambulatory surgical center admission, rehabilitation activities, and follow-up visit with the orthopedic surgeon.
Gadsden Regional Medical Center underwent a rigorous virtual review on May 28. During the virtual visit, a team of Joint Commission reviewers evaluated compliance with related certification standards including program management, supporting self-management, and delivering and facilitating clinical care. Joint Commission standards are developed in consultation with health care experts and providers, measurement experts and patients. The reviewers also conducted observations and interviews with employees.
“Total Hip and Knee Replacement Certification recognizes health care organizations committed to fostering continuous quality improvement in patient safety and quality of care,” says Mark Pelletier, RN, MS, chief operating officer, Accreditation and Certification Operations, and chief nursing executive, The Joint Commission. “We commend Gadsden Regional Medical Center for using certification to reduce variation in its clinical processes and to strengthen its program structure and management framework for orthopedic patients.”
“The seal of approval of The Joint Commission is the gold standard in the health care industry—an internationally recognized symbol of health care quality,” says Donna Nicholson, RN, chief quality officer of Gadsden Regional Medical Center. “It is a challenging accreditation to achieve and maintain, and it is evidence of our commitment to the Gadsden and Etowah County communities.”
