Gadsden Regional Announces 2019 Mammogram Marathon
10/1/2019
GADSDEN, AL, OCTOBER 1, 2019—One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention female breast cancer is the most frequently occurring cancer site for women in Alabama.
To encourage more women to take action for their breast health, Gadsden Regional Medical Center is offering a special to women for the month of October, which is recognized annually as Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Gadsden Regional’s annual Mammogram Marathon will feature extended hours each Thursday in October. Appointments will be available from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Marathon days.
“Mammograms save lives,” said Lindsay Frederick, M.D., an OB/GYN at Women’s Health Partners and a member of the Medical Staff at Gadsden Regional Medical Center. “Today, thanks to early detection and treatment advances, more women are surviving breast cancer and living longer, healthier lives.”
To ensure all women have access to life-saving screening mammograms, a special $99 cash price is available at the Women’s Imaging Center through a partnership with MDSave. To take advantage of this offer, patients may visit mdsave.com/prevention-party or call 855-993-6576 starting October 1st. Specialists at the Women’s Imaging Center can also help patients access the discount.
The Mammogram Marathon will take place at The Women’s Imaging Center at Gadsden Regional. The women-only center is located on the campus of Gadsden Regional on the first floor of the 400 Building.
“The bottom line is, nearly all breast cancers can be treated successfully if found early,” Frederick added. “And the most effective way to detect breast cancer at an early, treatable stage is to have yearly mammograms starting at the age of 40, and to have regular clinical breast exams by a doctor or nurse.”
For women of average risk, the American College of Radiology recommends annual mammograms starting at age 40, with no upper limit as long as the woman is in good health. Different guidelines apply to women at higher risk. A screening mammogram can help detect breast cancer in its earliest and most treatable stages.
The Women’s Imaging Center is accredited by the American College of Radiology in Mammography. In addition to digital mammography, the Women’s Imaging Center offers ultrasound, bone density scans and breast biopsies. The Women’s Imaging Center provides a welcoming environment with privacy and comfort for patients.

Appointments are on a first-come, first-served basis. If the patient does not have a physician/provider, a list will be provided for selection. All mammogram reports will be sent to the physician/provider, and the patient is responsible for follow-up. Check with your insurance provider to confirm coverage for a screening mammogram. If you do not have insurance, options may be available to help with the cost.
