Echeverri Named Latest Hicks Award Winner

Gadsden, Ala. – Longtime Gadsden General Surgeon Dr. Alberto Echeverri was honored as the latest recipient of Gadsden Regional Medical Center’s Chester Hicks, M.D., Award.
The award is “presented to a physician who demonstrates a commitment to providing the highest quality service by meeting or exceeding our patients’ needs with care, compassion and courtesy, by demonstrating commitment to teamwork and GRMC goals, by optimizing resources, and by creating and maintaining a respectful, safe, and caring environment.”
Dr. Echeverri has served the medical staff at GRMC for more than 20 years.
One of the nominations for Dr. Echeverri read, “When I think of this award, I think of Dr. Echeverri. He shows all of his patients compassion and courtesy. He listens to the patients and exceeds their expectations.”
Another nomination mentioned, “Dr. Echeverri exemplifies our service standard each time with every patient. I have been at the beside with him and have seen first-hand how he takes extra time to sit with the patient, pray with them, hold their hand, and speak calmly and with comfort to put the patient at ease.”
“Dr. Echeverri is always courteous to staff, respects the opinion of those taking care of his patients, and explains care he orders of his patients. He also prays with patients, family, friends, and staff.”
Dr. Echeverri was presented with the award by Dr. John Pirani during a reception at the Kiwanis Pavilion at Noccalula Falls.
Previous winners of the Hicks Award are Dr. Newt Godfree, Dr. Lowndes Harrison, Dr. Darryl Prime, Dr. Terry Robinson, Dr. James Phillips, the late Dr. Richard Rutland, and Dr. Homer Spencer.
