GADSDEN, ALABAMA — Ken Davenport, M.D., and Scott Rayburn, M.D., were recently recognized as the 2020 and 2021 recipients, respectively, of Gadsden Regional Medical Center’s Chester Hicks, M.D., Award.
The award is presented to a physician who demonstrates a commitment to providing the highest quality service by meeting or exceeding our patients’ needs with care, compassion and courtesy, by demonstrating a commitment to teamwork and GRMC goals, by optimizing resources, and by creating and maintaining a respectful, safe, and caring environment.
Dr. Davenport, a general surgeon, has served on the medical staff at GRMC since 2011. Dr. Rayburn, an anesthesiologist, has served on the medical staff at GRMC since 2006.
A nomination for Dr. Davenport reads, “Dr. Davenport always demonstrates care for not only his patients, but also his fellow doctors and nurses. His patience never waivers, and his attitude is a constant positive. He is the nicest, hardest-working doctor! He is not only wonderful with his patients, but he is also the best doctor to the nurses and staff. So sweet and helpful when you need something.”
A nomination for Dr. Rayburn reads, “A true advocate for our staff and their families. Without any questions, he has helped numerous staff with their COVID symptoms and worries. Day or night he has helped anyway he could. With phone calls and a listening ear. He's very kind and thoughtful. My family and I have received such kindness from him, and we are very thankful to know him.”
Dr. Chester Hicks, for whom the award is named, passed away earlier in February of this year. John Pirani, M.D., Chief Medical Officer at GRMC, presented the awards to Dr. Davenport and Dr. Rayburn at a physician reception held February 24.
Previous winners of the prestigious award are the late Dr. Newt Godfree, Dr. Lowndes Harrison, Dr. Darryl Prime, Dr. Terry Robinson, Dr. James Phillips, the late Dr. Richard Rutland, Dr. Homer Spencer, Dr. Andy Vann, and Dr. Alberto Echeverri.
